Upgrading to the new release
You cannot upgrade Rational Project Conductor from a release prior to RC2 to RC2 or later. You must install afresh.
Migrating your repository data
If you are installing a new release of Rational Project Conductor, you can migrate your repository data from the existing repository to the new repository. You can use the repotools application for the database export and import.
- Stop the Jazz™ Team Server.
- Export the repository data to a file using repotools.bat.
The repotools file is located in JazzInstallDir/server.
repotools -export toFile=./file_name.tar
- Install the new release.
- After the installation is complete, import the repository
data from the exported file using repotools.bat:
repotools -import fromFile=./file_name.tar
- At the prompt for whether you want to drop the existing database and overwrite it, click Yes. A message confirms the successful completion of the process.
- Clear the server cache.
- On Tomcat, delete the folder catalina from the path JazzInstallDir/server/tomcat/work.
- On WebSphere Application Server, rom the path WASInstallDir/profiles/AppSrv01, delete the folders temp and wstemp. On Windows, also clear the contents of the directory location C:\Documents and Settings\<User name>\Local Settings\Application Data\IBM\IBM Information Server console\
- Start the Jazz Team Server.
Known problems
The following list mentions the known problems for the RC2 release of Rational Project Conductor:
Installation
- The WebSphere Application
Server does not respond when accessed concurrently by 50 or more users.
You must tune the WebSphere Application
Server parameters as mentioned in the following table:
Table 2. WebSphere Application Server Tuning parameters Tuning Parameters Before tuning After tuning WebSphere Application Server- JVM Minimum heap size 50 256 Maximum heap size 256 1024 WebSphere Application Server - Default and Web container thread pool Minimum heap size 15 20 Maximum heap size 50 200 Rational Project Conductor > Administration view > Server > Advanced Properties > Core Repository Component Default JDBC Connection Pool Size 128 Maximum JDBC Connection Pool Size N*25, where N is the number of concurrent users. For eg, for 50 concurrent users, make it 50*25.
Exchanging data with Microsoft Project
- For all imported projects, you can update the Forecast information in the Financials viewlet.
- All unmapped users are mapped to the profile selected during import to Rational Project Conductor.
- Rational Project Conductor supports only the As Soon As Possible and Finish No Later Than constraints, and the Finish-to-Start dependency. As a result, some attributes in Microsoft Project schema do not get imported to Rational Project Conductor.
- Importing large files to Rational Project Conductor takes some time. For example, importing a file of size 2 MB takes almost 5 minutes.
- After you import a project from Microsoft Project, a task/summary task with multiple assignments is converted to a Summary task with sub-tasks containing individual assignments.
- Synchronization between Microsoft Project and Rational Project Conductor is not supported.
- The calendar is ignored during import and export.
- You cannot import Actual values.
General
- If there is any mandatory attribute defined in the process template for project or risk work item types, you cannot create a project in Rational Project Conductor or through Rational Team Concert. If there is any mandatory attribute defined in the process template for other work items, you cannot create them in Rational Project Conductor. You must use Rational Team Concert to create those work items.
- A child element can be created only after the parent element is saved. For example, you can create a child time code only after the parent time code is created and saved.
- When you access Rational Project Conductor through Internet Explorer 7, editing a numeric text box, such as Duration, is not possible as you cannot place the cursor in the field. To edit numeric text boxes in Rational Project Conductor from Internet Explorer 7, you must right-click the field and enter the value.
- After installing Rational Project Conductor, when you access <https://serverIP:portnumber/jazz/epmWeb> for the first time, an error message pops up, and you will not be able to log in. To get through login, you must first access the administration view <https://serverIP:portnumber/jazz/admin>.
- Adding more than one viewlets to a view will distort the view.
- Only a user with the JazzAdmins permission can create tabs.
- If you want to use the sample users provided with the sample database, you must configure the sample users based on your chosen user authentication method, and assign the appropriate licenses to them.
If you are using LDAP, add these users to the LDAP directory, and refer to the password policy for the default passwords. If you are using the Apache Tomcat user database, copy the following sample user information to the tomcatInstallDir/conf/tomcat-users.xml file:
<user username="Neil" password="29408adfe1bd968f27dc2108cec0e6ccb2e163d2" fullName="Neil" roles="JazzUsers"/>
<user username="Peter" password="64ca93f83bb29b51d8cbd6f3e6a8daff2e08d3ec" fullName="Peter" roles="JazzUsers"/>
<user username="Gail" password="a419a5d9cc0dcf5c76b0483c1da31002c914e5c3" fullName="Gail" roles="JazzUsers"/>
<user username="Kathy" password="5679d1cbe2eea8da797a9e36798b80aa00a8d6f5" fullName="Kathy" roles="JazzUsers"/>
The password for the sample users is same as the user name.A user with JazzAdmin permission must also assign the appropriate Rational Project Conductor licenses to these users.
- Navigating away from a page with unsaved changes discards the changes. No warning is displayed about unsaved changes.
- If you are using Oracle database with WebSphere Application Server, you will get errors after logging in to Rational Project Conductor. You must restart the Jazz Team Server.
- If you have migrated to the post-Beta2 release, and are still using the process template of a release prior to Beta2, the Details viewlet will pop up errors. To avoid errors, you must modify the process configuration specification of those project areas. To modify the
process configuration of the project area:
- In the Rational Team Concert Eclipse client, right-click the project area, and click Open.
- Click the Process Configuration tab and expand Project Configuration > Configuration Data > Work Items > Editor Presentations.
- Select com.ibm.epm.work.editor.project from the dropdown.
- In the Editor Presentation section, expand Overview > Details.
- Select Time code and Charge code, and click Remove.
- Click Save.
- Iterations, created in Rational Team Concert, with empty start and end dates will break Insight integration.
Work management
- Modifying the presentation of project work item in the process template leads to unexpected errors.
- You can create a project only as a child of a program or project.
- Creating child iteration with the same name as its parent or fore parents will cause URI clash and would make the Web UI go into infinite loop.
- Creating more than 100 projects causes a memory leak.
- If you move work items within a project in FireFox, you will get a unresponsive script error. You can either click Continue or refresh the Web browser. If refresh or clicking the button does not work, see the article about Warning Unresponsive script.
- Dependencies can be created only between tasks.
- If you expand a WBS element that is nesting 70 or more elements from the WBS tree, an unresponsive script error message is displayed. Click Continue to proceed.
- If you upgrade from Beta1 to RC2 or to any other release before RC2, saving a Story work item for existing projects pops up error. You have to update the process template for the existing projects.
To update the process template:
- In the Rational Team Concert Eclipse client, right-click the project area, and click Open.
- Click the Process Configuration Source tab.
- Change ID for <type category="com.ibm.team.workitem.workItemType.story" dimmedicon="" icon="processattachment:/workitemtype/story.gif" id="com.ibm.team.apt.workItemType.story" name="%project_process_spec_name_11"> to <type category="com.ibm.team.workitem.workItemType.story" dimmedicon="" icon="processattachment:/workitemtype/story.gif" id="story" name="%project_process_spec_name_11">
Resource management
- Resource calendar cannot be changed.
- Resources cannot be allocated to a program.
- You cannot assign multiple resources to any work breakdown structure (WBS) element apart from projects.
- Searching and assigning resources based on availability can be time consuming.
- Multiple selection of the AND condition in the Resource Query Editor returns incorrect results.
- Resource/Profile assignment can be done for a maximum period of five years.
- Unassigning a resource will unassign from the current date, irrespective of the actuals entered.
Timesheet
- After migration, if you cannot save project assignments or update timesheet, you must delete a process template entry. In Rational Team Concert, open the Process Template view, open the Project Management Process template, and in Process Configuration Source, delete <project-operation id="com.ibm.epm.operations.category"><action id="any"/></project-operation>
Financials
- Information in the Financials viewlet is available only for a project.
