I finally found some time to go through the video interviews that I filmed while I was at Innovate 2010 earlier this month in Orlando, FL. I was able to track down a few Jazz developers, including Erich Gamma, and I also got a few customers and partners to share a few thoughts as well.

In addition to filming interviews, I also presented a session that was a guided tour of jazz.net and also covered the value and purposes of jazz.net (and how to get the most out of it). We did a similar session last year, but this year almost everyone in the room was already on jazz.net and already participating in some way! This evidence of growth just seemed to carry through everything all week, making the vibe in the air noticeably different from previous years. Whereas last year people were asking me, “What is Rational Team Concert?”, this year people asked me questions like, “How do I get more out of Rational Team Concert for capacity planning?” or “How can I generate a report that shows effort required per story point?”

So, it was really exciting to see and feel the growth and increased excitement from year to year! If you didn’t make it to Innovate this year, hopefully we can see you at Innovate 2011 — same time of year, same fun hotel in Disney World!

We are at Innovate 2010

It is Sunday in Orlando, FL and the Innovate 2010 Rational Software Conference is in full swing. Here is our quick guide to Jazz at Innovate. You can see (or add to) a growing Flickr pool of photos to get a feel for the atmosphere:

Like in previous years, we have a good number of Jazz developers, product managers, and other team members here to present keynotes, sessions, and workshops, to demo on the exhibit floor, and to help people get up to speed in the Jazz Cafe (Mon-Wed, 9:45-11:00 and 2:00-4:00pm, Europe 2). If you’re lucky enough to be here with us, we’d love to meet you and get your feedback!

But unlike a few years ago when Jazz was first introduced, Jazz-related sessions are now spanning the entire agenda, across several technical tracks, particularly the following tracks:

Or, you can also customize your attendance by following a virtual solution track, like the Agile or IBM Jazz solution tracks. And don’t be surprised to find sessions related to products on jazz.net in any of the other technical tracks.

Be sure to ask plenty of questions and tell us what you think.

And one more thing … I’m roaming around the conference with my Flip camcorder looking to film some quick interviews with customers, partners, and other users and developers. If you’d love to be semi-famous and get your face on jazz.net, just track me down and we’ll record a few quick takes. Innovate 2010 Jam, March 30-31

Just a quick plug for an upcoming event … In preparation for Innovate 2010 in June, IBM Rational is hosting an online jam, or brainstorming session, called IBM Innovate Jam 2010, March 30-April 1. The event is free, and all are invited to participate.

Several of the Jazz leads, including Erich Gamma and Dave Thomson, and other IBM strategists, including Grady Booch and Scott Ambler, will be co-hosting the Innovation Jam.

This online event is meant to bring together customers, partners, and our development teams to explore new ideas in an unscripted environment. Over the course of the three-day event, participants will explore questions and ideas around agility, governance, process, teaming, and Cloud, for example. After the Jam, the team will harvest the ideas — some of which may shape the next generation of our products.

You can register for the Jam (free of charge) and drop in any time between 9 am to 9 pm next Tuesday through Thursday, March 30 through April 1.

There’s even a $$$ incentive: Jam participants are being offered a $300 discount to our upcoming user conference, Innovate 2010.

Rational Asset Manager is here!

I’m thrilled to announce that Rational Asset Manager (RAM) has joined the Jazz community here on jazz.net.

If you’re not already familiar with RAM, I invite you to visit our project page. If you’re an existing user, I think you’ll enjoy having direct access to our development team and other community members.

Rational Asset Manager (RAM) was first brought to market in late 2007. The next two years saw numerous enhancements and use by customers all over the world. Last year we released version 7.2, which began our evolution to Jazz technology by using Rational Team Concert to power our asset lifecycles.

The Enterprise C/ALM with Asset Management scenario explores the linkage between Rational Asset Manager and other development tools such as Rational Team Concert, Rational Requirements Composer, Rational Software Architect, and Build Forge. RAM 7.2 supports creating links to assets for new or existing work items in Rational Team Concert. You can see this in action in our video for managing a release, or see some of the enhanced integration in our what’s new video.

Today, we released Rational Asset Manager 7.2.0.2! You can learn all about what’s new, and download the product. We invite you to track our progress — your direct feedback is invaluable.
